What time of day and at what stage of ripeness do you pick figs? When they start changing color? After their color is dark red lookin'? Or When? How often during the day do you check 'em? Most years, if we don't pick 'em before they get very soft the durned birds'll get 'em. One left last night "to get good'n ripe over night" was just a shell at my next "pick." If someone(?) gets up early enough we should have about 15 or 20 nice ones before the mockin' birds beat us to 'em.

Rusty, this is probably an answer to another blog. Hub and I always put a bucket of water in the garden. We also left shallow pot bases filled with water. The birds want the moisture from the fruit. I am phobic about eating fruit that has been pecked by a bird or bitten by a squirrel. The fresh water supply helped a lot. I picked the figs when they were deep purple. Nothing better tasting than a fresh fig off of the tree.
