This willow was planted with the trunk positioned vertically so why does it lean to the photo right and then start growing straight up again? REV. 1 We put the willow there because our washing machine drain stops there and we haven't kept the cedar trimmed back far enough.

  • Maybe it was "following the sun"?

One day, you'll look to see I've gone,
For tomorrow may rain, so I'll follow the sun....

Love them Beatles. Maybe that tree was the fifth Beatle?

(Today is a weird day for me, please forgive....)

  • something else is growing next to the tree that is now pushing it up on one side. needs more room for sure.

  • Good guesses but there was something else at play here. Something few people consider when they play Johnny Appleseed. Rusty didn't allow enough of it when planting it.

  • I agree with Ringer. In Rockport all of our oaks lean with the wind. Made neat paintings and pics.

  • The wind- gotta be? Don't ya think when the tree was little the wind blew and blew until it threw the trunk off balance. Someone should have braced the tree, stabilizing the trunk, to grow straight! Either this or a mole's house is directly underneath the left side root system...
