MANY a year ago my AMBLIN' WITH ABE column in the River Parishes Guide, Paradis, LA, carried the warning that handling baby turtles could result in kids catching salmonella. Many ditches and canals in south Louisiana were teaming with little turtles. Guide readers were finally convinced when a local youngster contacted the disease form a canal not three blocks from our house. Inspite of laws enacted at the time the illegal sale of turtles continues in some 2,000,000 businesses across the country.
