Back when I was in school, dress codes weren't nearly as strict as they are now. There was somewhat of a code enforced but it seems now school districts are putting more teeth to these codes.

In Wednesday's Advocate, reporter Erica Rodriguez will talk about a student who wants to be able to be able to wear a cape to school, despite what the school dress code says.

Here is what people had to say about these dress codes:

"I don't have kids in school, but I think it's reasonable."

"I think they should be made to wear standardized uniforms. Everybody's the same and it's one less distraction toward getting an education."

"I think they're doing a good job. You've got to have some discipline." Jarvis Monse, Victoria, retired

"I agree with discipline. You get people who are wearing capes and the next thing you know you'll have their boxers having out of their pants. The school is a place for learning."
