• The book I was referring to is White Widow, which in bus driver slang is a beautiful woman.  If you like Mr. Lehrer, you should read it.  :o)

  • Thanks, Dayna. I need to do a lot of reading on the history of Victoria and the Crossroads region. I'm woefully lacking in my knowledge of the rich history here. Have a good weekend. I'll be shuttling back and forth between one child playing in the Veterans Day parade and another playing soccer.

  • Lehrer mentions Victoria and Victoria College quite a bit in his book A Bus of My Own.  This book is held by Victoria Public Library, but is currently checked out (by me).  He also wrote another book called We Were Dreamers which might include references to Victoria since it is about his parent's busline.  VPL doesn't have the second book, but I remembered the title because my parents had a copy around the house when I was growing up in Kansas.  I will have to go back and read it too.

  • I haven't read the book, but I heard him speak at Harvard and give the Victoria bus call. When I get a chance, I'll dig up the home video I shot and see if I can post it. It's amazing to me that I heard Jim Lehrer call out Victoria and surrounding stops while I was at Harvard, never dreaming that I'd soon be editor here. I'd call that foreshadowing if I ever got around to writing that book that haunts every journailst. We all think we have a great book in us, but most don't.

  • I love Jim Lehrer.  Have you read his book about the bus driver that has the route from Victoria to Corpus?  Can't remember the name of it right now but it was very good.  Strange, but good.
