I think the title was appropriate and catchy,
I understand why the Advocate chose to use the term "Bienvenido", and I have no objections. It is nothing more than a term of welcoming. You see the same on doormats and signs on restaurants all over South Texas. The fact of the matter is, we live in South Texas, in a city that was founded by a Spaniard, Martin De Leon, and we have, and always have had, a predominately Hispanic population. It is as much a part of our heritage as the Irish and German immigrants who also settled in the area. Having said that, though, I do feel as if English is becoming obsolete. I have no problem with persons from Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador coming to seek a better life in the U.S. Our country was built on that premise. But I believe that if you want to live here, you should learn to speak English. That doesn't mean to forget your native language or forget your traditions --- As for former-President Bill Clinton, we need to realize that he was a human just like you and I. If he had NOT been president and had an affair with Monica Lewinsky, and lied about it, who would have really cared? (Other than his wife.) Millions of men cheat on their wives every day of the week, and lie about it --- if the spouse forgives them and gives them another chance, who are we to judge? Now, I find Mrs. Clinton to be extraordinarily magnanimous in her support of her husband.... I admire her for the fact that she rose above the public humiliation and held her head high. If it were me, I'd have ...... well, enough said.
Hey, I'm just impressed the headline got the proper gender and number of the adjective figured out. This ain't a doormat we're talking about.
Thanks Ragman! I particulary liked the "lying under earth" comment!
WOW. Soooo many rednecks. I am surprised these people who write you can even read and write. That is scary..I am sure if GHW Bush came to Victoria, even though he has been here before, it would be big news. Why all of the animosity. Jealousy I suppose. People still LOVE President Clinton no matter what he did, or was accused of, that he didn't do! Viva Clinton! Viva GHW Bush!!VBB---Welcome Clinton! iBienvenido Clinton!
I don't have a clue what it means...I was confused every time I saw it.....could you enlighten me please?
