  • The Sheriff's Office does not charge for escorts. They normally take over the escort at the city limits if the burial is in the county. They also have been known to do the entire escort if the VPD isn't available or if the family requests their services.

    I am not sure if the fees or the service is bugging you.   Here in this region nearly all processions have a escort.   It's an acceptable behavior.
    Its warrant. In fact a little cheap.  wow.  They need to revisit the charge in my opinion.  With emotions high in some events a patrol plus a role of security  its deemed appropiate. 
    Look at headstones.  A glazed stone w/ etching for $350+.    Coffins are $700+    I  think the excavators charge like $75. 
    It's all part of the service pkg.
