The catch to having a press pass is that you're obligated to actually work at the event you're attending. You can't just go enjoy the concert or show, talk to the stars, and not do any work. You're expected to actually produce content for the newspaper you're representing. The Advocate doesn't typically cover the cool concerts in Austin, for example, so our journalists don't get to use their press passes to get into those events. They have to buy tickets like everyone else.
John, I like your idea for a regular column about Crossroads people and their life-changing decisions. That could be fascinating if pulled off properly. It would take some solid reporting to find the right subjects.
