I don't know what plans they have, Riverboat. I'm curious myself to hear about how they plan to distribute the paper. I'll let you know what I find out, although I'm not in the office tonight.
I'd love to have a copy of my hometown newspaper when it comes off the presses. Any chance they'll be on sale here?
Update: Galveston editor just called me. He says his staff members on the island are all safe. He's the only one in the News building, which is without power, phones or Internet. Somehow, he was able to use his cell phone, but he can't see the reporting his team is doing.
His crew of copy editors and page designers can't make it here because I-10 and U.S. 59 were blocked. They headed instead to a Galveston sister to put together their pages. We still plan to print the News after receiving an electronic transmission of their pages.
He was extremely gracious in thanking us for our hospitality. Quite remarkable given the stress he's surely under. I told him it was our honor to help in any way we can.
