I don't know Mildred Hearn of Yoakum, but I appreciate the wisdom she and other readers share in Sunday's Advocate. The spirit of Easter shines through in their words.

Day to day, we get caught up with this or that hot story, but the little things matter most in our everyday lives. The human touch is what makes a newspaper or anything, for that matter, special. Our readers' stories about Easter won't win any awards, but we hope they brighten your day.

Thank you to all who shared them. They made me think of one of my favorite songs, "Heart of the Matter," by Don Henley. As we decorate eggs later today, I'll be humming it.

What Easter story do you have to share?

  • I think my favorite Easter memory was Easter, 1988. My ex was in the Army, stationed at Ft. Sill Okla. I was about 8 months pregnant with my second child. I didn't want to drive to Texas to visit the in-laws so I invited them up and I was going to fix the dinner. I couldn't sleep well that night because my back was hurting. So I finally got up and started cooking and cleaning. By noon, I was in agony, and hot! My M-I-L finally convinced my ex to take me to the hospital. They told me I was in labor and broke my water. 3 Hours later, my son was born!

  • ER........wow that reads a little strange now that I think about it. Of course, I mean my dad would DYE the Easter Eggs.....yeesh, it's been a long day, I suppose. One of my favorite photos is of him at the table, with the PAAS egg dye (the only one we would use). To this day, ANY time I smell vinegar (or acetic acid in the lab at work), I ALWAYS think of Easter, as the vinegar was used to dissolve those dye tablets. Funny how one smell can take you back decades, right?

  • So I think it's about forgiveness....forgiveness, even if you don't love me anymore. Great song, Chris. My favorite memory is of my father dying and hiding Easter eggs for me in all my favorite hiding places when I was a child in Houston. I am still lucky enough to have him around for this Easter. For that alone, I am blessed.

Have yourself a wonderful Easter, Chris.
