My other job is chauffeur.
Our kids are of the age when they're coming and going in every possible direction. I've dropped my son off for football practice at 6:20 a.m. and picked him up from select soccer practice at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, my wife has picked up our daughter from tennis practice on one day and marching band practice on another.
Oh, and there's that school thing, too.
I wonder whether we're scheduling our children too much these days. Our kids enjoy these extracurricular activities and make many friends by being involved in them.
Still, how do you know what's the right balance? The answer probably is different for every child.

I hear that, RU.
I can't believe our little girl is in high school. I wish I could hang onto these years longer.
August 29, 2009 at 12:21 p.m.Jose,
Thanks for the kind words. I have a healthy respect for single parents who try to get their kids involved in activities. I'm lucky to have a co-chauffeur. (And don't remind me that the kids will want to drive soon -- I need my sleep.)
August 28, 2009 at 8:10 a.m.Congratulations! You are "soccer parents"! You are making a fine balancing act with respect to the many activities your children are enjoying. The answer is different for every child. We do these things for their happiness. Enjoy the chauffers job while you can. When they start driving themselves everywhere you may feel left out.
August 28, 2009 at 7:08 a.m.In any case you are doing a great parenting job. There are many parents who either don't have the time or simply won't give their children the time and attention they need.
