Pepper, a Victoria man with a checkered past, has 3,272 fans on Facebook. The Museum of the Coastal Bend, a wonderful place deserving of support, has 116 fans.

Perhaps these same fans voted Pepper as the Crossroads' Most Fascinating in our series, which concluded Sunday. In a beautifully crafted story, Aprill Brandon showed the serious, sad and silly sides of Pepper. Some readers complained Pepper, a sometimes-homeless man with a criminal history, did not deserve to be featured.

From the outset, we never equated fascinating with worthy. For that, we have other features such as our Advocate of the Month series. We hope you will call the newsroom at 361-574-1222 to nominate people you want to see people featured as an Advocate of the Month or in some other way.

Many readers told us they wanted to know more about Pepper, and we listened.
