I'm pleased to call your attention to a special series that starts Sunday under the direction of Public Service Editor Gabe Semenza.
Semenza analyzed public databases to learn what federal stimulus money reached the Crossroads region and how it was spent. The money trail was not always easy to follow, as you'll learn through the series. Semenza worked with other Advocate reporters to develop a seven-part series that we expect will prompt discussion about the effectiveness of the government program.
This is the sort of watchdog reporting that is central to the mission of newspapers. Please let us know what you think.

The reporting of the series has been rather impressive. I contend it provides a written source for future researchers determining the use of "stimulus" money in our area.
January 1, 2010 at 1:09 a.m.the only discussion really neaded is on how to make them stop spending our money and let us spend it on what we need. If they had kept their meathooks out of my wallet in the first place, I could have afforded health insurance years ago.
December 28, 2009 at 12:59 p.m.The analysis appears to be well thought out and very well presented. Kudos to all involved.
December 27, 2009 at 12:26 p.m.I'd like to see how every Federal dime is spent in our area. Don't hold back, Gabe.
