Yeah, well, if I were you, I'd look for that tremendous talent that Laura Klimist whips into shape in time for opening night. She and Scott Mohan are the real stars you're looking for.  ;)

  • Riverboat,

You make excellent points. I'll have to look for you in an upcoming performance.

I imagine it's a challenge to book big names that will play Victoria. If you do, I suspect the ticket prices will be high. These two performers had legitimate Broadway credentials, but that apparently wasn't enough of a draw this time around. I'm just an armchair quarterback here, so I hope no one takes this as a criticism in any way of Theatre Victoria. I write this only in the spirit of wanting Victoria's already strong commitment to the arts in all forms to grow.

From a newspaper standpoint, as I was listening to the performers tell stories on stage about their Broadway experiences, I wished we had published a longer interview with them about that. For those who were unable to attend, you missed a good show.

  • I'm a semi-regular in the theater, having participated in summer musicals for years. I've served roles in all three theaters under the auspices of Theatre Victoria, so I'm well-poised to deliver an opinion on this.
Summer musicals generally have large casts. Thus, there is a potential for a large audience consisting of boyfriends, girlfriends, parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc. If you bring in outside acts, it better be someone with recognition. I'm betting the pull with that lady with that Mom's William Tell Overture shtick (Anita Renfroe, right?) was pretty good. If one of the two surviving Three Tenors came to town, you'd have an overflow audience.
Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not calling the residents here troglodytes or hayseeds. But name recognition is probably more essential in a smaller town than, say, Houston or Austin. And everybody recognizes his/her family member.

  • I would have loved to attend.  Money is in short supply, though, and this concert would have been better before Christmas, anyhow.  I'm getting to be more of a Willie Nelson type although I have been to broadway shows and New York in my day.  Most folks around here just want someone they're familiar with.  My husband says you didn't advertise it enough.  I saw where Victoria will host the western group "Riders in the sky".  We plan to go.  We saw them in Nashville and they were very entertaining.

  • Dear One,

That's definitely a fair point. What person or show would you like to see come to Victoria?
