Whenever you hire someone, you look for certain qualities such as experience, ability and intelligence.

Our new sports editor, Cedric Iglehart, has all of the above. What excites me about the possibilities with Cedric, though, is more of an intangible quality: desire.

Cedric has come to us from the Harker Heights Evening Star Newspaper, where he was the publisher. Cedric literally did everything as publisher -- writing sports, designing pages, selling and building ads, and even delivering the paper as needed.

He's eager to specialize in what he loves -- sports -- and join what he describes as one of the best newspapers in Texas.

Cedric, a native of Waco, played safety on one of the best defensive teams in the state during high school, so he knows Texas football. His wife has family in South Texas, so they're eager to settle in this part of the state with their children.

Cedric is an extremely personable and driven individual who should do great out in the community building the Advocate's connections to the community. If you're a Crossroads sports fan, I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot of him.
