Congratulations to Advocate photo editor Frank Tilley for being recognized nationally by the Associated Press Managing Editors.
His photo of a Calhoun High School tuba player caught in a downpour was named APME's photo of the month for September. We weren't expecting this photo on a typical Friday night, but Frank used his experience and talent to adjust to the conditions.
Frank is out temporarily on medical leave after knee surgery. People don't realize the physical demands placed on a photojournalist, who is regularly kneeling and working to get just the right angle. We hope this honor speeds Frank's recovery.

Say hello to your future brother-in-law for me. Hope he dried off eventually. What a downpour.
