I started the morning at a pep rally for Victoria schools and ended it enjoying the sunset over my kids' shiny new schools. You might say I had a perfect bookend to my day.

After receiving a stand ovation at Wednesday morning's convocation, Superintendent Bob Moore, overcome with emotion, struggled to start his speech. "There's so much to be excited about," he said after stepping away from the lectern to compose himself. I had the dual privilege of representing the VISD Education Foundation as a board member and listening to my daughter play in the band. I tried in vain to catch her eye, but she was busy and I didn't stand out in a sea of red and black. You'd think she could have spotted the old guy with the rosy complexion who looks terrible in red.

With my handy iPhone, I shot videos of the West fight song and the East alma mater. How much fun is the big East-West football game going to be?
