More than 100 people responded last week to our request to join our new electronic reader advisory board.

We still have plenty of room for you in the virtual meeting room. To join, please go to the Victoria Advocate Google group page we set up. You may go directly to Google or find a link on the special page we set up to explain the project. That page is at VictoriaAdvocate.com/survey.

We've received so many wonderful comments from readers as they joined that I wanted to share a couple here:

-- "I enjoy getting involved in anything having to do with my own community, and I like the idea of having a voice."

-- "This is a great opportunity for people like myself to be apart of possible changes that would affect the people in our area in a positive way. I am also a local writer as well as ministry leader that would like to encourage others from all walks of life. One person can make a difference where many people can be the difference. ..."

A few people contacted me to say they'd like to serve but were afraid of the time commitment. I explained we will ask no more than a handful of questions in any month, and we don't expect board members to reply to them all. You may join the conversation whenever you have the time or interest.

We also want to stress that you don't need to read the Advocate online to be a full member of this board. All you need is the ability to receive occasional e-mails from us.

Of course, feel free to call the newsroom, 361-574-1222, any time with any suggestion, or stop by our offices at 311 E. Constitution St. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to reach your Advocate.
