from Bum Phillips I learned that a grown man can cry! too bad he never did knock down the door against the Steelers! there might have been better coaches but we loved our Bum and still do! The Titans are the team for me now!
Hey, now I can see your comments, Chris. YAY! And, thanx for the Police reference. You gotta know I love those guys.
Pilot, how could you?????? Mention HE WHO SHALL NEVER BE NAMED in this forum? I can't stand that Sierra Oscar Bravo, and I don't believe there has ever been a more hated "man".
Don't even get me started.
I must go to my happy place now. Luv ya Blue....Luv ya Blue....Luv ya Blue.....
Ahhhhh.....that's better. :)
I remember an Oiler game in the Astrodome before Bum took over and Pastorini was QB. They had the ball and when it was hiked it shot straight up in the air. I remember the guy sitting in front said, "I've never seen that before." I said you're first Oiler game right? Because I saw that very thing a couple of weeks before.
I did love the Blue though after they got the Tyler Rose he was such an awesome talent but yet so humble. I go out of my way to buy his links at the grocery store. His health is failing now some kind of genetic back trouble - I wish him and Bum well.
And you're right Pilot there should be a warm place waiting for Bud Adams.
Sugar,There apparently was some momentary ghost in the machine. That's a Police reference for you. I know you're a lover of classic rock. "We are spirits in the material world ..."
Chris - I see on the recent comments page that you have made two comments on this blog but when I click on them, or look at this blog, I can't see them. I would love to read the rest of your comment to me.....
Is there a little glitch somewhere?
Thanks, Sugar, for the link. I was playing the song as our local editor and longtime Oilers fan Becky Cooper walked into my office. She even waved her imaginary pom poms and started her own trip down memory lane.
Hey, GroundedFlyer, the Houston Oilers will ALWAYS be alive in the hearts of those who love them. I am sure Mr. Cobler is aware that Houston is home to the Texans now, but they will always live in the shadow of my beloved Oilers.
Mr. Cobler, welcome to the club. I adore Columbia blue and well remember the days that Houston was lucky enough to have Bum leading our team to near-victory. We did, indeed, come close to "kicking down that door", and although we never won a Super Bowl, you must know that Houston Oilers fans were and are the most steadfast, loyal fans of all.
This, Mr. Cobler, sir, is for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvWn_y...I do hope you enjoy. If I had a nickel for everytime I sat in the Dome and sang along to that song, well....I wouldn't ever have to work again.
Dad remembers the building of the Dome, and I was born a mere three years after its completion and spent much of my childhood in the awesome structure.
See, now you've dredged up so many wonderful memories.
I'm glad you had the honor of meeting Bum, and I do hope he understands just how much he will always mean to Houstonians, and now to people like you who are lucky enough to know him in a different context.
Ha. Good one. Yes, I recall the angst over the Oilers leaving for Tennessee. I'm a fan of history, too.
You do know the Oilers are not a team anymore, right?
