Just back from a family vacation in Colorado, we had hoped to bring back some of the cool and rainy weather. No such luck.

Actually, on our first day in Colorado, the high temperature was a couple of degrees more than in Victoria. A cold front arrived the next day, though, and dropped temperatures about 20 degrees and brought rain for the next few days.

Who can figure the weather? The plains of Colorado are a semi-arid region typically receiving about a fourth of the annual precipitation of Victoria and much of that in the form of snow. Not this year.

Optimistically, we've introduced a new feature to our daily weather forecast on our back page: chance of precipitation. So far, the minimal chances listed by our meteorologists haven't amounted to much.

Paula and some of the family took a day trip into gorgeous Rocky Mountain National Park. I stayed at the in-laws' home with a sick kid -- gotta love unpredictable family vacations.
