With the sweeping popularity of smartphones, we've made it easier for you to share your photos and videos with the community.

Instead of having to upload your photos from your desktop to VictoriaAdvocate.com, you also now may email them directly from your phone to share@VictoriaAdvocate.net. If you have sports photos or video, send them to share@AdvoSports.net, where they will appear on AdvoSports.com, our site devoted to Crossroads sports.

Your news photos will appear live under Your Photos. With all photos, please be sure to fill out the subject line of the email with the title you'd like to use online. In the body of the email, you should write your caption describing what's happening in the picture. In either the title or the caption, be sure to add your name to receive credit for the photo.

Use the same instructions for sending video. News clips will appear under Latest Videos. Clips sent to AdvoSports will appear under the Photos & Videos section.

We hope you'll try this with our newest photo contest celebrating the end of school. Email your shots celebrating the final days of school or graduation to share@VictoriaAdvocate.net. Of course, you also may upload them to Your Photos, as before. To be eligible to win our contest for two movie passes, be sure to include your contact information with your photos.

As with all technology, we're bound to experience some glitches -- it's a challenge to account for all of the various phone models out there. If your photos or videos don't appear within about five or 10 minutes on our site, please call the newsroom at 361-574-1222.

Many thanks to a Facebook friend, Patty Fleming, who used our new email address to send us a photo of hail damage to her daughter's car in Ganado. Her photo was good enough to also be published Friday with our storm coverage.

We live in exciting times when we're able to harness the energy of our thousands of readers to help us better cover our community. Happy shooting.
