Please indulge me for a moment. The events should be published before hand to remind us that the day, like December 7, 1941 should be honored on June 6th not June 7th. Our population is so involved with daily life that would not exist as it does today without the sacrifice on that beach. History is more than a thick book that sits on a shelf. It lives in the flow of time and should be respected because it is a part of each and every one of us.
Headline "Today 67 years ago on a beach in France ......".
Thank you for your comment. The observances of D-Day will be today, so any coverage from around the world will be in Tuesday's editions. We don't know of any local observances or local veterans left who fought in that incredible invasion.
I understand your point that a mention of the historic event would have been appropriate today, too.
Mr. Cobler, please forgive me because this is off subject but needs to be addressed.
Today is June 6th. On this day 67 years ago 130,000 allied troops invaded the French coast to begin the defeat of the greatest evil of the 20th century. There were 5000 KIA.
In today's Victoria Advocate there was one (1) mention of the historic event. Thank you Snoopie for your taking the time to remember the brave heros of that day, June 6, 1944.
