Blogs » Your Advocate: an editor's blog » Will you stop by our offices Monday?

We hope you will attend our community event designed to help you be your own Advocate.

The session runs from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at our offices, 311 E. Constitution St. University of Houston-Victoria professor Macarena Hernandez will lead the session with the help of Advocate interactivity editor Jessica Puente.

This will be the first in a series of sessions about the many ways you may contribute to your Advocate. We encourage you to attend any one of the sessions that appeal to you or, even better, all of them. We will tell you more about the upcoming sessions Monday night; topics will include how to submit a letter to the editor, how to blog, how to use Twitter, how to post community calendar items and how to contribute community news.

We also will cover the results of the survey we distributed about verification of the news in the age of social media. If you haven't taken the survey yet, please do so online.

The unscientific survey is a starting point for discussion about how social media has changed and news gathering and publishing. We look forward to hearing your thoughts on the issue at Monday's session.

For those who have the time, we also will offer a brief tour of the newspaper at the end of the session. Of course, we always welcome you to stop by any time.
