We had a lively conversation when I blogged last about what there is to do in the Crossroads.

Some took my trips to Houston and Austin as evidence that there is nothing to do here. To counter that view this time, I want to promote Saturday night's premiere of the independent movie "Sironia" in the Johnson Symposium at Victoria College. I find it very cool that we get to hear after the movie from the writer, director and star.

In "Get Out," our weekly entertainment guide, you can read all about the movie, along with other fun things to do here, including a comedian Saturday night at the Golden Gecko and the Rackit (loud music?) at Steve-a-reno's in downtown Victoria.

If you're looking for free entertainment, park at sunset Saturday near The Club at Colony Creek, which is having a grand opening party. Although you have to be a member to attend the festivities earlier that day, I'm guessing you can see the fireworks show from anywhere close by.

Of course, Friday nights are booked every week during this time of year for high school football. I'll be shooting almost live video from the sidelines of the Victoria West-Cuero game while others on the staff will be fanning out across the region. Check out all of the action at -- for free -- if you can't make it to a game, or if you want to get updates on your smartphone from the bleachers. You also may upload your own photos from the game by emailing

After all of this, do you still say there is nothing to do here?
