  • SoTex: We burned our trash in a barrel, or trash hole when young. My parents still do. We stand upwind from the fire. Thought you could use the tip. Geez. Was it 16 mile walk to school uphill both ways when you were young too?
On subject, I like the City Mangers attitude towards the PEOPLE HE IS SUPPOSED TO SERVE! Give a sh--bird some $$$, and it goes to his head. All the more reason to remove his bosses next election, and let him get a pay CUT as our economy slows. He is in this business to serve, isn't he?
The trash deal may or may not work out. Looks like the City is commited regardless. Could have made more sense to pilot this program BEFORE making the decision to spent our tax dollars. Of course, the saleman from the supplier could have been real, real, persuasive.

  • Zee....GROW UP!  The new garbage system is more cost effective and efficient.  If you are someone who consistently has more garbage than can fit in the can and the lid still close then for pete's sake.....ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK FOR ANOTHER CAN!!!     Is that really so difficult?

Personally I feel that people should be required to place cans on only one side of the street.  In other words, one side of the street would have to push their cans across the street to be picked up.  This would mean only one trip up the street for the truck instead of two....can you imagine the savings in diesel fuel alone?   Fuel cost would be cut by probably 40% at least.   I know there would be outrage from those who , God forbid, had to push their can all the way across the street.

You know we have become a society of real whiners and sissies......we are so spoiled.   Until I was out of high school, I lived in the brush country 30 miles from town and we burned our trash.  When you burned trash in the barrel, you had to stand until it was burned to keep from accidently starting a fire....ashes in your face, the wind whipping the smoke around.   Just be glad you have someone to pick up your garbage.....it could be worse.
