The Victoria Generals won a tight game 3-2 Wednesday night in a pitchers duel against the Texarkana Twins.
After a scoreless first inning, the Generals struck first as Jose Diaz singled home a run on a grounder up the third base line to put the Generals up 1-0.
Both sides were held scoreless in the third, before Pete Robertson hit a home run to left field in the fourth.
The Generals relied on strong pitching, holding the Twins without a run for the next two innings, but could not muster a run across themselves.
A lack of run support finally came back to bite the Generals in the seventh, as the Twins clawed back two runs to tie the game in the top of the inning. But the Generals answered back as Jordan Johnson legged out a fielder’s choice to score Tanner Roach, giving the Generals the lead 3-2.
After a scoreless top of the eighth, the Generals looked poised to tack on another run before Diaz grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Ty Abraham came in and slammed the door on the Twins in the top of the ninth, striking out two in route to his third save of the season.
Diaz, Robertson and Johnson all ended the game with one run driven in while Jonathon Jimenez struck out five in three innings pitched.
With the win the Generals improved to 23-12 on the year.
