Hallettsville/ Nixon Smiley Baseball

Hallettsville’s Ryan Targac (23) pitches during the Class 3A bi-district playoff game against Nixon-Smiley at The Ballpark in Cuero.

Hallettsville junior Ryan Targac was a first-team selection at shortstop on the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Class 3A all-state team released Wednesday.

Yoakum sophomore Staton Pakebusch and Holden Lauer were third-team picks on the Class 3A team.

Pakebusch was chosen at catcher and Lauer was selected in the outfield.

Weimar senior Clay Barton was a second-team selection in the outfield on the Class 2A team.

Lauer along with Weimar senior shortstop Zak Kunz, Van Vleck senior outfielder Travis Koliba and Hallettsville senior utility man Rhett Trlicek were also named to the all-state team by virtue of their being selected to play in the association’s All-Star game.

Lauer, Kunz, Koliba and Trlicek will be members of the South squad in the Class 1A-4A game, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
