Shiner vs. Post Football

Doug Brooks anchored a defensive line that helped propel Shiner to the Class 2A, Division I state championship.

Brooks, a junior, had 105 tackles, including 22 for loss, and was named the defensive player of the year on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A all-state team announced Monday.

Shiner’s Daniel Boedeker, who led the Comanches to a 14-0 record was selected as co-coach of the year.

Doug Brooks and Shiner senior center Brock Sestak, senior linebacker Colter Darilek and sophomore utility player Dalton Brooks were first-team selections.

Refugio senior linebacker Zavien Wills and Falls City senior guard Jacob Hofauer were also named to the first team.

Shiner senior running back Zane Rhodes and Refugio junior kick returner Antwaan Gross were selected to the second team.

Shiner senior quarterback Tyler Palmer, Kenedy senior fullback J’ren Salais and Refugio junior all-purpose player Jordan Kelley were third-team selections.

Earning honorable mention were Refugio’s Gross at wide receiver, and Falls City’s Luke Shaffer at kicker and utility player, Jacob Hofauer on the defensive line, and Cody Arrisola and Alex Hofauer at linebacker.

Mart senior quarterback Roddrell Feeman was named offensive player of the year, and Windthorst’s Chris Tackett shared coaching honors with Boedeker.
