Wharton has won two straight games after breaking its 22-game losing streak. El Campo defeated Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial last week for its first win of the season. Wharton’s Raymond Hudson III has rushed for 346 yards and five touchdowns. El Campo’s Rueben Owens has rushed for 308 yards and three touchdowns.

Calallen is ranked No. 4 in the Class 4A, Division I state poll. Cuero is ranked No. 4 in the Class 4A, Division II state poll. Calallen is coming off a 41-7 win over Flour Bluff. Cuero pummeled Yoakum 75-6. Former Cuero running back Robert Strait will be inducted into the Cuero Sports Hall of Fame before the game. Cuero’s Mason Notaro has passed for 630 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Last year: Pleasanton (0-3) and Gonzales (2-1) play for the first time since 2019 when they were district opponents. Gonzales won that game 20-13. Pleasanton has lost to San Antonio Antonian, Boerne and Jourdanton. Gonzales is coming off a win over Marion. Gonzales’ Jarren Johnson has passed for 428 yards and four touchdowns, Derrick Garza has rushed for 441 yards and four touchdowns, and Davonte Smith has 11 receptions for 216 yards and four touchdowns.

Rice Consolidated looks to bounce back from a loss to Columbus. Palacios has lost eight straight games dating back to last season. Rice Consolidated’s Rafael Herrera has passed for 327 yards. Palacios’ Anthony White has passed for 484 yards and one touchdown, and Cameron Graves has 11 receptions for 145 yards and one touchdown.

Notes: Falls City (1-2) and Flatonia (2-1) play for the third straight year. The teams split the previous two games. Falls City scored 32 points to beat Stockdale last week after being shut out the previous two games. Flatonia is coming off a win over Nixon-Smiley. Flatonia’s Fidel Venegas has passed for an area-leading 658 yards and six touchdowns, and Keyshaun Green and Jaidyn Guyton have combined for 20 receptions for 235 yards and one touchdown.

Shiner’s Dalton Brooks scored a touchdown and two-point conversion with 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter to defeat Poth 22-21 last week. Shiner is ranked No. 4 in the Class 2A, Division I state poll. East Bernard lost to Ganado and is trying to avoid its first 0-4 start since 2004.
