I really hesitated even writing this but here goes. “The Vaccine” is very controversial. I have dear friends who will not take it and have fear over what it contains and will do to them now and in the future. I can really understand that because the real basis is political. We do not trust our government. We see Fauci, Hunter Biden, Election Fraud, WHO, CDC and a laundry list of questionable and even evil people associated with this virus and with the 2020 election.
I have wonderful religious friends who feel that prayer will cover them. I hope they don’t, but my pastor is a truly blessed man and he got it.
I, too, was a person who said I would never take the vaccine but I did.
Bill and I had Covid-19 and were very sick. I was hospitalized for five days and Bill for 24 days. It is the worst illness I have ever had in my life. My kids begged me to get the vaccine and I said no. What finally made me change was not seeing my daughter, son-in-law and two grandkids in California. I was literally afraid to travel on a plane because of Covid-19 and I missed them terribly.
With all that said, I had a conversation with a Victoria doctor today and wanted to present what he said. I am not telling you to get the vaccine but merely relaying information.
Right now there are 59 cases of Covid-19 in Citizens and 98% were never vaccinated. In DeTar there are 29 with Covid-19 and 91% never vaccinated. Both hospitals are crammed to the max, the staff are frustrated, overworked and down. They have all had Covid-19, they took it home to family and they are running to keep up.
The doctor told me story about young man who was leaving for college and the night before had terrible seizures. At Citizens there were no beds and he had to be put in the ER. They tried to get him to San Antonio, Austin and Houston hospitals but were turned away with no beds. He needed special neurological care and Victoria was not equipped to give it to him.
He told me about medical staff who are quitting because they are burned out. Another doctor from DeTar recently said he was working 29 days straight, two days off and back for 14 days plus. On the night shift, there is one doctor to man the ICU and ER and they are trying desperately to get doctors to come and help.
He told me about a 28-year-old man who got Covid-19 and had to have both feet cut off due to blood clots. He told me about treating a 38 and 42 year old men with Covid-19 and both died. He talked of having to call their families with the horrible news and how awful he felt.
Doctors are reporting they can’t sleep, they are anxious and do not feel like they can keep up the pace.
He is worried that someone will have a heart attack and will they be able to be taken care of with the present situation. One man was flown to Victoria from Dallas because he checked 26 hospitals in Dallas area and they were all full.
I listened with horror when this doctor spoke to me and realized that there are always at least two sides to any story. Please pray about this, I know I did. Am I worried that I put something in my arm that will hurt me? Yes, I am. Would I do it again? Yes, I would. Why? Because I know that Bill almost died from this and I felt like I was dying and I never want to travel that road again. I want to live for my seven, almost eight, grandkids.
Can anyone promise you that if you take the vaccine, you will not get Covid-19? No. Do I believe you should be forced to take this vaccine? No!
As an adult, you can make your own decision and will. I just wanted you to know the story from another outlook.
Please know, I am not trying to convince you to take the vaccine but equipping you with information about Covid-19 and what is happening in our city. I just want all of us to be over this nightmare.
