Talking past

Although it’s a right-wing show, I like to listen to the Bill Pozzi Show 6:15-7 a.m. on Magic 95.5 because the host personally invited me to be a guest to espouse my views without interruption. I listened to few shows and learned that he is a man of his word. I have called in a few times; minds weren’t changed but that wasn’t the point. Yesterday, I called him and congratulated him for having a UHV professor explain the voting process. I learned a lot. Don’t get me wrong, when they go into conspiracies or Democrats are Socialists/Marxists/communists (how can you be all three?) I turn off the radio and start doing something else.

This morning, my last blog was mentioned but I decided not to call because I didn’t want to cut into the time of their guest Emett Alvarez.

Bill read the first paragraph of my blog and questioned why Congress is selecting a committee to examine the facts around Jan 6, 2021 siege of our nation’s Capitol. If I had called in, I would have explained the differences between our three branches of government. The Justice Department will punish the offenders but Congress has an oversight role in the events of what happened, by whom, and why their place of work was attacked.

To give you an example of a typical exchange of when I call in. I thought I heard Bill say that Gavin Newsom abandoned the Democratic Party because he left out his political affiliation in his recall run. I said no, he simply didn’t know the rules of the recall election and was told it was too late to correct the error. Come on, running as a Democrat will not hurt your chances in California.

Then it was said that the Texas House Democrats went to Washington D.C. because it was not a state that had an Extradition Clause. I reminded them that in 2003, New Mexico and Oklahoma refused to arrest the Democrats who fled the state to deny them a redistricting quorum. They said legislators need to stay and fight. That depends on your definition of the fight. Those legislators are leaving their families and small children to put additional light on the subject. They know it will eventually pass but they went to Washington to talk to Congress, the President and Vice-president to try and convince them of the need to pass a voting rights bill that used to be bipartisan. They are also begging them to get rid of the filibuster.

The argument has been made that the state shouldn’t control the federal election process. Not true according to Art. I Sec 4 Clause 1 of the United States Constitution which states “But the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of choosing Senators.” Pre-clearance comes to mind.

I’m in the middle of a book titled “Frankly, We did Win This Election” by the Wall Street’s Michael Bender but it’s not something I can never have a discussion with my conservative friends. They will automatically tell me, Bender is only out to make money, he used anonymous sources, it’s funded by the deep state, Democrat lies, etc. and they will give me the link of a video because they don’t read books; not the conservatives I know.

I just pre-ordered the book “I Alone Can Fix It“ by Carol Leoning and Phillip Rucker but if the Washington Post and CNN keep publishing the excerpts, I won’t need to buy the book.

I tend to believe the contents but the experts say it’s because I’m biased and want the stories to be true. I believe them because the events have been mentioned before by different authors. I also paid close attention during the primaries, hearings, speeches, and not one of the sources have denied their version of events. What’s scary is that the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley knew Trump might try some sort of a coup in November of 2020 but remained silent. We need to subpoena the principals to tell their stories under oath. And if the authors are lying, we should make that known, so it affects their bottom line.

I had a discussion with a few of my friends where we agreed that a lot of the local politicos and voters are really anti-government libertarians who identify with the GOP because a Libertarian can’t win running as such. It probably started in 1997 when Ron Paul was our U.S. Representative. It avoids the confusion of thinking of them as the old Ronald Reagan Republicans. One of the recent mayoral candidates identified as a Libertarian.

The results of the committee hearing nor the contents of the revealing books won’t matter to the Trump loyalists. They’ll play the victim and blame it on the Democrats, Big Tech, the mainstream media, the deep state, etc. and they’ll fundraise off it. Don’t take my word, go see for yourself. It’s their SOP. For example, Governor Ron DeSantis is making money selling “Don’t Fauci My Florida“ paraphernalia while his state had 6,426 new cases of Covid yesterday and today it was 7,011 new cases.

In the meantime, their side will complain of our overusing racism, while banging the drum beats of Democrats are trying to implement Socialism/Marxism and Communism (good grief pick one) and CRT. The latter boogeyman is fairly new so don’t ask them to define Critical Race Theory. The illegal immigrants are coming in to vote for Democrats has been around for decades and the socialist tag came in 1935 when Social Security was enacted and gained steam when Ronald Reagan called Medicare “socialized medicine.”

I had to look up Jimmy Dore and when I found out I found out he was a standup comic I had to laugh…Tucker Carlson is a entertainer not a journalist. Tuckers the same person who called the joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley a “ pig.”

This from NPR ….A letter from Tucker’s lawyer “Just read U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil's opinion, leaning heavily on the arguments of Fox's lawyers: The "'general tenor' of the show should then inform a viewer that [Carlson] is not 'stating actual facts' about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in 'exaggeration' and 'non-literal commentary.' Maybe one of these days you need to think outside your box and watch things like Tucker Carlson Today and his interview with Left Wing Jimmy Dore. And lots of independent journalists. Of course I don’t think you will but most of us “Right Wingers” do look at independent people to expand our knowledge.

Well, it can be confusing since many current leaders of the Democratic Party are self-professed Socialists but then hold up the Cuban Government as the correct model for the world. True, the "Socialist" label was used early as a campaign tool for the right. Unfortunately, it has now become a reality. So, I guess early on it was an accurate fore warning of things to come for this country. All those forms of government all end the same way with the government killing millions of their own citizens. So, the correct label is not important. That is very scary to some but others always tell me “That can't happen here". I'm not so sure anymore. There is plenty of blood spilling in the streets right now and it’s not due to a lack of gun control even if many try to put blame there.

Adam Schiff and Jerrod Nadler orchestrated an actual coup attempt with the backing of the entire Democratic Party. That is much more of a concern than a few hundred old conservative patriots thinking they needed to storm the Capital. Wrong maybe but any chance of an actually government overthrow, lol, unlikely. But they did get Nancy Pelosi's laptop. I know you feel somebody needs to go to prison for that. I only wish Adam Schiff had to face some consequences for the constant lies he told the American people. I know you are going to say I'm using another whataboutism. One action was a true coup attempt with the support of ½ of our Congress for almost the entire term of a President and the other was a few hours of some patriots thinking they were doing the correct thing for THEIR Country. But, I’m sure your side will keep using “Remember January 6th” as their battle cry.

Hello JT

You say “many current leaders of the Democratic Party are self-professed Socialists who hold up the Cuban government as the correct model for the world.” That describes Bernie Sanders the Independent from Vermont who caucuses with the Dems but for the last eight years would become a Democrat to run for president. As I recall Dems trounced on Bernie for his pro-Cuba views in the last debates. Google!

Factions of the GOP have always been paranoid to an extreme. I remember the “commie behind every tree and black helicopters.” Like Joe McCarthy, the former chairman of the Texas GOP Allen West, a candidate for governor, said that he knew that 78-81 House Democrats “are members of the Communists Party…. It’s called the Congressional Progressive Caucus.’…. Like you, he never named them and PolitiFact gave him a “pants on fire.”

I believe we are a strong country and I continue to say our country will have capitalism today, tomorrow and the unforeseeable future. I quote the chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley at the conclusion of the Trump presidency “It’s the strength of the country. There is polarization. But at the end of the day, the country did stand tall. There was a perfect transfer of power. There weren’t tanks in the street. And the line bent, but didn’t break.”

A coup? Adam Schiff and Jerrod Nadler performed their oversight duties. Congress had no choice but to prosecute the president for using aid that was approved and passed by Congress to extort Ukrainian officials so they would provide political dirt on his political opponent. We didn’t want the next president Dem of GOP to do that. If left unchecked it would have emboldened Trump if he would have been reelected. Many GOP senators said it was reprehensible but not an impeachable offense and Susan Collins said she thought the president learned his lesson. Abuse of power is serious.

The second impeachment was for his role in inciting a riot. This is the short version of what Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor “the mob that violently breached the U.S. Capitol earlier this month was “fed lies” and provoked by President Donald Trump. House minority leader Kevin McCarthy said “the president bears responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on Congress by mob rioters.”

Battle Cry? As opposed to burying your head in the sand, pretending it was patriotic Americans who perhaps went a little overboard. The FBI labeled them domestic terrorists. Have you watched any footage of the police cams? Republicans used to care about $1.5 million of damages,140 police injured, and perhaps not the last attempt at violence by the Proud Boys,3 percenters, and other white supremist the FBI have arrested.

I’m a bit of a news junkie, Mr Chandler, so I was really surprised with the contention in the FIRST sentence of your comment that there are “many current leaders of the Democratic Party” who “hold up the Cuban Government as the correct model for the world.” Since the ONLY person that I’ve ever seen referenced as supporting any individual policy enacted by the Cuban regime (but never supporting the Cuban authoritarian MODEL of government) might be Bernie Sanders (an Independent, although, admittedly, he caucuses with the Democrats), I’m at an absolute loss about which current Democratic Party leaders you might be referring to. I’m always interested in learning new facts, so please provide the names of all those many Democratic leaders who’ve contended that the Cuban Government is the “correct model for the world.” I’d normally ask for your references as well, but I assume I’ll be able to find their supporting statements in reputable news sources with a quick “_____ supports Cuban government” internet search. If that’s not a good search phrase, please let me know. Lastly, I know this will be a rather long list of names (Webster defines “many” as “a large but indefinite number”), but since you were so specific with your description, I’m assuming you can rattle off those names off the top of your head. This is all new information to me, so I look forward to seeing your list and finding the leaders’ statements. Thanks in advance.

Exactly Glen….. at the breakfast club, Lee asked me the question all Trump supporters ask “ Name one good thing that Biden has done but It wasn’t until five minutes later when he paused enough and allowed me to answer. They always go to the “whataboutism”…..It’s as if they have 30 seconds to get out their talking points before they expire… Same old same old , democrats are Marxist, socialist and communist, abortion and Nowadays they sprinkle in the evils of CRT…..I would be receptive to their comments add difference of opinion.

Good one Mike. Bogglers is my new favorite name for the RW radio boys. They had Emmett spinning around in circles, from one subject to the next, asking questions and changing subjects before he could finish his answer. They are good bogglers…lol. As far as them pushing you to call in, have you thought to invite them to pen comments to your blogs with some of their perception of the facts? I also heard Pozzi mention he penned an opinion piece to Revista, so he can still write?…Thanks…Glen

Well done Mike. When I try to wrap my mind around the steadfast Trump supporters I have hit a brick wall. And there in is the cold truth. It is liking trying to have an intelligent discussion with a brick wall. Maybe some walls made of other material there might be ……..

If I’m talking to a stranger, I would ask a couple of questions before proceeding. #1 Do you believe Trump will be reinstalled on August 13th? #2 do you believe the election was stolen?…….lol

From NBC News Jul 12,2021......” Trump's rumors have been firmly rejected by law enforcement, according to reporting by NBC News. A senior law enforcement official briefed on the matter said the officer involved was not a member of a security detail provided to a specific member of Congress.

Trump's speculation is also refuted by the video evidence freely available to the public, which clearly shows that Babbitt was not "innocent." She was shot while trying to force entry into a restricted area and disregarding multiple police orders to stop. We also know Babbitt arrived at the Capitol fired up by Trump's conspiracy theories, which she spelled out on her social media profiles alongside threats to Democratic elected officials, such as the vice president-elect, Kamala Harris, and Rep. Maxine Waters of California.”
