The weather has been beautiful and I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday with their family and friends. We celebrated the holiday with our son, Todd and wife, Danny, and grandkids. It was a shared holiday of both Easter and Passover. I don’t know how these two parents manage to have any energy whatsoever left over for family with their busy and successful business AND moving into their new building, but they do.
When we arrived at their house, many memories of my Mother came to mind. Just like my Mother, Todd and Danny had extra kids playing with their children (like they always have). Evan and Mason were playing baseball with Todd’s crew and when we walked into the kitchen, we found Danny cooking like crazy. Making Matzo ball soup for Passover, baking a huge batch of chocolate chip cookies (best I ever had in my life!) for two of Tai’s friends' birthday today and managing to salvage a few cookies for her kids. Just like my Mom, kids are drawn to Danny and she loves cooking great meals and making pies, cakes, and cookies for her family. She cooks many of the goodies and good food from some of my Mom’s recipes. When Mom went to be with the Lord, Danny only wanted her cookbooks. I’m sure Mimi is very happy with this. She improved on Mom’s cooking by tweaking the recipes and makes everything taste better.
The table was already set with a fresh cheesecake on the table for dessert and had the makings for all her terrific stir fry chopped up and ready to go. I managed to make Potatoes Au Gratin, my granddaughter Tai’s favorite, and brought a pea salad as well. My Danny and Todd’s Danny enjoy my pea salad. I tried to contribute, but not really much. She’s an amazing cook and I always look forward to sharing dinner at their place.
It’s a kid “heaven” atmosphere at Todd and Danny’s place with everything a group of kids would love to do. Before dinner, all of them went for a swim at the pond while the grown ups sat in Todd’s Bar , “Top of the Hill” (beside the pond) and enjoyed a cool beverage. Four wheelers, trampoline, clubhouse (from the kids younger days), a massive swing and all the practice gear you need for playing baseball and improving your game. No wonder all kids love going to Todd and Danny’s.
It was a wonderful Easter and it’s my understanding Appliance Pro is officially moved into their new building at 2401 E. Mockingbird. Their great employees worked long days to get moved in. Everyone is so excited about their new “workplace” and getting everything moved in and organized. We are so proud of Todd and Danny! What began 19 years ago as a two person operation, has grown into a successful business with several technicians, a shop hand and office help (Thank you Cat for helping Danny out) and they now own their own business location. They deserve it because they’ve worked hard to earn their success. Mazel Tov! Many thanks to their loyal customers who’ve helped them grow, and thrive and spread the good word of Appliance Pro providing great appliance sales and service to Victoria and the Crossroads area.
With May quickly approaching, we will be going to Dallas for our youngest granddaughter’s first Communion with almost all of the family attending. After our visit, we try again this year to see Mount Rushmore and the Badlands. Next up, we’ll babysit our younger grandchildren from Dallas while Julie and Ryan take an anniversary trip. Shorty thereafter, it’s our annual Colorado stay that we always enjoy with one exception. We’ll get to spend time with Todd, Danny and the kids because Tal has a softball tournament outside Denver for a week, so we’re very excited about that.
Summer does get busy and our daughter, Julie, teaches kindergarten and says May is always a difficult month for keeping the class focused on learning. The children are already excited about summer fun and vacations and it’s hard for them to listen and learn.
Here’s to hoping everyone has a fabulous upcoming Summer. Enjoy, share some memories and remember to enjoy time with family and friends and make it count. Until my next post, remember to compliment someone, give a smile and kind word to a stranger and enjoy the summer. Danny and I will continue “Slowin Down” and enjoying our retirement!
