Readers have told us once they're subscribers, it's not easy -- nor natural -- to start reading their Advocate online.
The main reason is because when we implemented a new computer system in late February, it wouldn't let us migrate over current user accounts. Everyone has to set up a new user account.
If you haven't created a new user account on our new website, you need to do this to link back to your subscription. It's unfortunate that readers have to create a new account, but we believe in the long run, it will be worthwhile.
For one, our new website is better with lots more options than our old one. And we believe we have one of the best e-editions available for our readers. Both the new website and e-edition offer extra bells and whistles that our old technology did not.
So with that said, let's get on with learning how to create a new account to link back to your subscription.
Step one. Locate the sign up link at the top right of the page. (see photo).
Click on it. Once you click on the sign up button, it will take you the sign up page.
There are four things to do on this page.
First, choose a username (which must be your first and last name to comment on articles), input your first and last name, and supply your email address. The e-mail address is the single-most important step in the process. You MUST use the same e-mail that you used for your subscription.
After supplying your e-mail, choose a password and confirm your password.
Second, you can decide whether you want to sign up for our daily headlines newsletter or the e-edition alert.
Third, tell the computer you are not a robot.
And fourth, click on the "create account" button.
You will need to check your email for the account verification link. Once you verify your account, and if you used the same e-mail address as your subscription, then you will have full access to the site and e-edition as an Advocate Advantage member.

On your mobile device or tablet, find the sign up link. Go to the expand menu option (the three lines in the upper left of the screen. See photo).
Click on those three lines, and the menu expands.
At the top of the expanded screen, you will see the sign up link. Click on it.
It will take you the sign up for account page.
Follow the steps above for filling out the page.
Already have an account?
The steps above work under the assumption you have a subscription, and need to create an account to link to it.
If you have an account but it has a different email than your subscription, I'll explain how to change your e-mail address to match the one you have for your subscription.
First, log in.
Once you log in, click on your name, and select dashboard.
That will bring you to your personal dashboard for your account, with different options. In the left column, select user account.
You will see a few options. Select the change email option.
That step will take you to a page where you can change your email address. Just make sure you use the same one as your subscription.
These steps work the same through mobile, as well.
