Most-viewed stories of 2018

People, at least when reading online, devour stories about crime and breaking news, such as car wrecks, shootings, fires, high-profile court coverage and the like.

As a news organization, we know that and understand the reasons behind it. But it's not just in Victoria — this happens in newsrooms across the country.

All of the stories in our Top 10 for 2018 were breaking news stories about one emergency or another. These are sometimes tragic stories — hard for journalists to report on and probably harder for victims or their families and friends to read — that often include destruction, despair and loss of life.

So, there's really no surprises on the list of this year's most-viewed stories. What you should note, however, is that whatever story our journalists are reporting, they do it with respect, hard work, professionalism and care.
