It doesn't take much to get fans of "Tomb Raider" excited, so Thursday's announcement about a new game coming in 2018 via a "major event" has many of us hyperventilating.
Personally, I like the approach Square Enix is taking by leaving us twiddling our thumbs. So many theories are going around as to what the big reveal could be.
Obviously, this will be the third part of the series' relaunch. For quite some time, rumors suggest the game will be called "Shadow of the Tomb Raider," although that has not been confirmed. Tomb Raider fans have even noticed the first letter of each sentence in the announcement forms the word "Shadow." Coincidence?
Who really knows.
We do know that the new "Tomb Raider" movie hits theaters March 16; and we do know that the timeframe between the big reveal and the day you can play is short.
My theory is for fans to be ready for March 16. I think it's entirely possible for Square Enix to plan a huge trailer reveal in which, at the end of the trailer, we will see the date say something along the lines of "Available Now."
How crazy would that be? Think about it though. Lara Croft has such a huge fanbase, so there really is no worry about the game not being purchased. Do you really have to market a new Tomb Raider game? In my mind, no. I've followed Tomb Raider since 1996, when I was just 10 years old. I'm never going to look at a trailer for a game and be like, "Nah, I'll skip it."
Can't wait to learn more about what's to come!
