So many games, so little time.
By now, I likely sound like a broken record.
There is one game out right now that really helps you pass the time, "Monster Hunter: World." It's probably on my Game of the Year list. Although realistically, the game probably doesn't stand much of a chance to actually win Game of the Year because it lacks in the story area.
The game was released at the end of January and truly has the potential to bring in a new fan-base. I had never played a Monster Hunter game before. But this game is like playing an RPG, like the "Final Fantasy" series, minus much of a compelling story.
The story is simple, but I like it that way. You, the hunter, are brought to the New World by a research commission. On your way there, Zorah Magdaros, a gigantic monster (and I do mean gigantic) makes a path to the New World as well. As a hunter, its your mission to learn why Zorah Magdaros has come to the New World.
To do this, you craft weapons, armor and utilize any tactics needed to battle myriad monsters throughout the New World. This, to me, is where the game is fun. This game is for those who love to grind and level up. I'm definitely one of those people.
I have many friends who play RPG-style games and do a minimal amount of leveling up. They tend to keep moving forward with the story, scraping by with lower HP levels, weaponry and armory. Me, on the other hand, I've been known to waste an entire day off from work just getting stronger.
I've also heard a lot of great things about online play, although I've yet to play with others.
This game is truly addictive, which is unfortunate, because I'm still playing several other games. I barely completed "Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor." Yep, you read right; I think I mentioned playing that game in my last column. I'm a bit slow on grinding.
Again, I think the fact that "Monster Hunter: World" is slow in terms of story, it makes it easy to put down and continue other games you may be playing with more involved storylines.
