The Nave Museum is proud to present The Exquisite Rainbow Corpse Redux, an exhibit featuring works from over 80 women artists who are members of the Gentileschi Aegis Gallery Association (GAGA).  This Association, which was formed in 2010, was founded to help promote, educate and advance women artists in South Texas.   Each participating member artist has chosen a color from a color palette, and created two 12 x 12 inch canvases which feature the color chosen.  The art then will be hung around the front gallery of the Nave Museum based on the gradient rainbow sequence of ROYGBIV colors and Surrealist invention.  The back gallery will feature works from sixteen of the artists that were chosen because of their extra efforts within the Association.

GAGA first created an exhibit like this in 2014 to celebrate their five year milestone.  The Exhibits Committee of the Nave Museum reached out to them about two years ago to see if they would be interested in recreating The Exquisite Rainbow Corpse for our Museum, and they happily agreed.  The pieces in this exhibit are all newly created.  Most of the artwork will be for sale through each individual artist.

GAGA’s name comes from Artemisia Gentileschi, a painter from the 1600s and the first recognized woman in the all-male artist canon.  She painted in the style of Caravaggio, developing beautiful narrative paintings, full of light, movement and energy.  During the span of her stellar career, Gentileschi enjoyed a successful court following throughout Europe – a feat unheard of for a woman of that time.  Aegis comes from Athena’s armor, and was chosen for a little protection, smarts and strength to help the women artists as they struggle forward.   Athena is, after all, the goddess of craft, wisdom and war.

The exhibit opens to the public on Friday, November 22, and runs through Sunday, January 5, 2020.  The Nave is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 pm, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 pm, and is closed on Mondays.  Admission is always free, but donations are gladly accepted to help us continue our mission of bringing fine art to the Crossroads.  Memberships are always available, and enable art lovers to attend the Opening Night Preview Shows.  Call 361-575-8228 to find out how to join.  Visit us on our website at www.navemuseum.com, or follow us on Facebook to learn more.
