Trial continued Wednesday for two men charged with the capital murder of a Port Lavaca man who was found killed by a single gunshot at his apartment.
Co-defendants Andrew Ray Flores, 24, and Anthony Reyes Serena, 21, are accused of killing Port Lavaca resident Lupe Garcia, 33, in October 2017. Calhoun County District Attorney Dan Heard said in 2018 that Flores and Serena killed Garcia while robbing the man at his residence in the 200 block of Bonorden Street in Port Lavaca.
At the time of his death, police investigators suspected an argument had transpired just before Garcia’s death.
Both Flores and Serena have remained in the Calhoun County jail since their arrests in April and July 2018.
According to the Calhoun County District Clerk’s Office, jury selection for the trial began on Monday with testimony beginning Tuesday.
Although Heard said he would not seek the death penalty, the men face a potential life prison sentence without the possibility of parole. Serena is represented by attorneys Keith Weiser and Merri Nichols.
Flores is represented by Joseph Garza.
