Point Comfort must pay an almost $24,000 fine for discharging more pollutants than allowed from its wastewater treatment.
The plant, which is at the intersection of Murrah and Pease streets, discharged more bacteria than is allowed in April 2017 and September 2017.
Records show the plant also discharged more bacteria, pH and total suspended solids than is allowed in October 2017 and November 2017.
Point Comfort City Administrator Ofie Baldera declined to comment after speaking with City Attorney Carly Wall on Wednesday, the same day the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality approved fining Point Comfort during a meeting in Austin.
The city of Moulton and Tri-County Point Property Owners Association near Palacios also had fines against them approved during that same meeting Wednesday, but theirs dealt with drinking water.
Moulton was fined $584 for having a slightly higher level of disinfection byproducts in its drinking water than the state allows and not notifying the public during summer 2018.
The World Health Organization has classified disinfection byproducts as possible human carcinogens.
"The particular problem that we have is trihalomethanes and that's an age-old problem in Moulton, and it's something that we deal with on a daily basis," City Administrator LuAnn D. Rogers said Wednesday. "We are treating it to the best of our ability."
Tri-County Point Property Owners Association was fined $1,499 for not telling its customers and the TCEQ about the quality of its drinking water as required in 2018.
A representative for Tri-County Point Property Owners Association could not be reached for comment by deadline Wednesday.
