The Yorktown school district could have a new superintendent within the next few weeks, according to a district news release.

The school district announced on its Facebook page Wednesday morning that the school board unanimously voted for Katherine Kuenstler as the district’s lone finalist for superintendent.

Kuenstler is currently the assistant superintendent for instruction at Comfort Independent School District in Comfort.

“I am honored and proud to be the lone finalist of Yorktown ISD. I’m eager to listen and learn from the stakeholders to continue to provide the best education for our students,” Kuenstler said.

In her 15 years with the Comfort school district, she has worked as principal at the high school and as a counselor, according to the news release.

In addition to serving as an administrator, Kuenstler was a math teacher for the Linden-Kildare school district for eight years.

Interim superintendent Bill Boyd did not respond to calls or messages seeking comment Wednesday.

Kuenstler’s projected starting date, if approved by the board, would be March 18.
