Generic police tape

A Matagorda man died Monday afternoon after a three-vehicle wreck in rural Matagorda County.

Donald Ray Floyd, 60, of Matagorda, was headed south in a Chevrolet Impala on Farm-to-Market Road 2031 about a quarter-mile south of Matagorda about 12:45 p.m. Monday, said Sgt. Stephen Woodard, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety. For reasons still under investigation, he went into the northbound lane and struck a vehicle being towed by a Chevrolet Suburban driven by Brandon Griffith, 34, of Whitney.

He continued south in the northbound lane and struck head-on a Chrysler Aspen, driven by Joann Garay, 40, of Van Vleck. Floyd died of injuries suffered in the wreck. Garay was transported to Matagorda Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Griffith was not transported to a hospital.
