Matagorda County Sheriff's Office is continuing the investigation of how a 32-year-old man fell Thursday from a 17-foot-high bridge near Blessing.

According to the accident report, Luke Popp fell about 4:30 p.m. while working on a bridge at Morris Road, off Farm-to-Market Road 616, about 2 miles west of Blessing.

Popp was cutting the bridge when a piece of it gave way, according to the report.

He was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Popp was able to speak with deputies and tell them what happened before he was transported to the hospital.

His condition was unavailable Friday.
