Victoria police assaulted while making an arrest

Joel Garcia, 28, was arrested on Sunday and charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member, resisting arrest, evading arrest, violation of parole and three counts of assault of a public servant, said David Brogger, senior patrol officer with the Victoria Police Department.

A Victoria man is charged with assaulting a family member and the police officers who tried to apprehend him afterward.

At 4:30 a.m. Sunday, the officers responded to a reported disturbance at a home in the 5600 block of North John Stockbauer Drive.

Joel Garcia, 28, would not identify himself to the officers. He ran from officers, was apprehended and then assaulted them before being arrested, Senior Patrol Officer David Brogger said Monday.

Garcia was charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member, resisting arrest, evading arrest, violation of parole and three counts of assault of a public servant.

The injured officers were treated and were in good condition, Brogger said.
