The original Mission Espiritu Santo was located at the site of Fort St. Louis on Matagorda Bay in 1772. In 1726, the Mission was moved inland near the Guadalupe River in the area now called Mission Valley, where it remained for 23 years.

In 1746, the mission was relocated for the last time to its present location in Goliad.

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
