As of Tuesday evening, no arrests had been made in connection with the Monday night shooting in which a woman was struck by a piece of a stray bullet.

The woman, who was identified by an acquaintance as Jackie, was driving her black Saturn Ion near Lova Street to visit friends in the 3500 block of Morningside Street.

While en route, Jackie was hit by a stray bullet from a shooting on Oaklawn Street.

Police Chief Bruce Ure said the woman "sustained a very significant eye injury" from a shard of the bullet, rather than the glass, as previously reported.

Neighbors, who chose to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation, gave conflicting reports of what exactly happened Monday evening.

Some cited a drive-by shooting at a home in the 3100 block of Oaklawn, while others said the shooting stemmed from an altercation in the front yard of the home.

Residents questioned on Tuesday about the shooting incident declined to comment.

After the shooting, the victim, who Ure described as an "innocent bystander," continued on to her friends' house where police investigated her vehicle, and emergency crews took her to a local hospital.

Officials would not say which hospital she was taken.

Although no arrests have been made at this time, Ure said officers do have multiple descriptions of vehicles and suspects they are investigating.
