The recently chartered Top Teens of America have inducted its second class of Top Teens.
Chericka Hilburn, top teen advisor, discussed the importance of teens being active in their community for future opportunities.
Q: What do Top Teens of America focus on?
A: We focus on scholastic achievements, community beautification, status of women, senior citizens and community partnerships.
Q: What do teens get from being part of the organization?
A: We aim to teach that a great leader is a great servant and that you have to give back. Colleges are not just looking for 4.0 grade-point-average, they're looking for students to be more well rounded, to be involved in their communities.
Q: What kind of activities does the organization work on?
A: We help at the Perpetual Help Home twice a month and we work with the senior citizen. During Christmas, we sang carols and played bingo. The teens also get points. We also are working with Keep Victoria Beautiful in Disney's give a day get a day.
Q: What do the points go towards?
A: They get to do fun things. For example, the teens with the highest points got to attend an all-expense paid trip to Houston for a leadership conference. They get points for attending meetings, volunteering and bonus points depending on their GPA.
