Former Edna High School band director Billy Forrest Marquis Jr. pleaded guilty on Monday to possession of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Marquis, 51, pleaded guilty to possessing images of minors engaged in sexually-explicit conduct. He also admitted he subscribed to 10 child pornography Web sites.

During a May search of his Edna home, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents seized a hard drive containing several pornographic images of children, dozens of whom were identified as real victims by the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children.

A Victoria federal grand jury indicted Marquis in January.

Marquis worked at the Edna school district as assistant band director and head band director from 2002 until March 2009, when he resigned.

Marquis remains on bond pending a July 6 sentencing hearing. He faces 10 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine followed by court supervision.

Marquis' arrest was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Marquis pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge John Rainey. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lance Duke is prosecuting the case.
