GOLIAD - Alonzo Morales beat the long-time incumbent to gain the Democratic Party nomination for Goliad County Commissioner Precinct 2.

He beat 20-year incumbent Jerry Rodriguez, 59, by a vote of 281 to 261 in Tuesday's runoff election.

This is the third time the two have faced off in primary runoffs.

"Third times a charm," said Morales, 48, by phone from the Goliad courthouse.

"I'm elated," said Morales, who works for the city of Goliad, is the volunteer fire department's fire chief, drives a school bus, and owns a wrecker company.

Morales does not have a Republican Party opponent in the November election.
