Degoverdo Dominguez, 35, of Victoria, was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday after a jury found him guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a 9-year-old family member in September.
He went before District Judge Robert Cheshire for punishment and received the maximum sentence. The judge noted that the defendant had betrayed the trust of his family.
Evidence showed Dominguez assaulted the boy when he watched the child while his parents would run errands. The child told his father in September of the assault.
The father and mother contacted the police who investigated. Detective David Ruiz, of the Victoria Police Department, was in charge of the investigation.
The child has been in counseling since then.
Assistant District Attorney Eli Garza prosecuted the case.
