Department of Public Safety troopers seized 285 pounds of marijuana during a weekend traffic stop of a truck tractor towing a semi-trailer loaded with tomatoes.
Trooper Henry Schultz stopped the vehicle at U.S. Highway 59 near U.S. Highway 87 for following too close about 9 a.m. Saturday. After interviewing the driver, Jose G. Torres, 41, of Brownsville, Schultz said he received verbal consent to search the truck and the trailer.
Schultz located 12 bundles of marijuana mingled with the load of tomatoes. Torres was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana between 50 and 2,000 pounds, a second- degree felony, and taken to the Victoria County Jail.
